Some Eru Iyalwo  lists can be simple, while others can contain more than fifty individual items. This is why it is very important to with for the official list to be provided. Don’t start buying before you get the list o!

Food Items

Food is usually the largest part of an Eru Iyawo package. You may find bags of rice, dried fish, sugar, salt, vegetable oil, palm oil, spices and seasonings. Some families also include onions, tomatoes, pepper, stockfish and assorted spices. These are everyday foods that symbolize abundance and the hope that the new home will never lack food.

Eru Iyawo lists typically include honey, kolanuts, alligator pepper, and bitter kola. Other items include coconuts, prayer mats, Bibles or Qur’ans, toiletries and household items.
